Belgium’s most delicious coffee.

Superior Taste Award - 2 stars -
for the perfect coffee taste of Koffie Kān’s Santos Mild blend

On May 19-2006, Marjolein Vermeersch, manager of Koffie Kān, officially received the 2 Stars Superior Taste Award at the ‘Awards Ceremony’ in the Château Sainte-Anne in Brussels.
A jury of top European Chefs, beverages experts and sommeliers from all over Europe evaluated Koffie Kān’s most popular coffee blend on a strictly blind basis. They granted it unanimously the Superior Taste Award 2006 with 2 Stars, reflecting a global sensory analysis score of more than 80%, with a score of 92% for the purely taste aspect!

Or to put it into the words of the ‘International Taste & Quality Institute’: “Given the severe quality standards required from our international juries of top European Chefs and Sommeliers, I would like to warmly congratulate you for this remarkable achievement. Your company and your team should be very proud to market products that are so highly prized for their superior taste.”

The 'International Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi)'is an independent organization dedicated to judging and rewarding superior-tasting food and beverages. For its juries, iTQi works each year in close partnership with the 8 most prestigious European culinary institutions and the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI).

For the tasting, iTQi presented Koffie Kān’s coffee blend on a strictly blind basis, without packaging or conditioning and without any identification of the product nor the producer. Each member of the jury assigned a numeric score on an evaluation sheet taking into account the general tasting qualities, the aroma, texture, flavour and mouthfeel of the coffee. They also scored their affective reaction and the intensity of their pleasure while drinking Koffie Kān. These various scores were compiled by computer in order to determine a final global mark.

The members of the jury said to be delightfully surprised by the intense aroma and full body of Koffie Kān’s Santos Mild blend.

Superior Taste Award - 1 star -
for the perfect coffee taste of Koffie Kān’s Decaf

For the second time in a row a jury of top European Chefs, beverages experts and sommeliers from all over Europe evaluated another coffee blend by Koffie Kān. Again, they did so on a strictly blind basis. They granted Koffie Kān's Decaf unanimously the Superior Taste Award 2007 with 1 Star, reflecting a global sensory analysis score of 78,2%, with a score of 81,11% for the purely taste aspect and 80% for the aroma!

Decaf often is the poor cousin in the coffeerack, because many coffee roasters tend to use inferior quality for the decaf blends. Koffie Kān makes her Decaf into a sublime blend, full of taste and aroma. Because we know that decaf drinkers precisely are the most staunch coffeelovers, who because of circumstances aren't allowed the caffeine anymore. The blind test and evaluation by the International Taste & Quality Institute proofs once more that Koffie Kān knows its beans.

For the tasting, iTQi presented Koffie Kān’s Decaf on a strictly blind basis, without packaging or conditioning and without any identification of the product nor the producer.

Koffie Kān received the official Superior Taste Award 2007 during the Awards Ceremony that took place on June 1st, 2007 at the Cercle Royal Gaulois, in Brussels.

Koffie Kān’s taste make a strong appeal to coffee lovers everywhere

It is not the first time that Koffie Kān hits the fancy of people who know about coffee.
In 2002 the worlds leading coffee buying guide 'Coffeereview.com'(www.coffeereview.com/review.cfm?ID=626) included Koffie Kān's Decaf in their July blind cup test, headed by the famous coffee reviewer Ken Davids. He had remarkable words of praise for our decaffeinated blend: :' I have not tasted an extreme light roast that develops as much sweetness and complexity as this one. This extreme light-roasted coffee displays the nutty, brisk character of light to medium roasts, but adds an impressive sweetness and richness that less skillfully executed light roasts fail to deliver. Intensely but sweetly acidy; chocolate and nut notes in the aroma, dry fruit and pipe tobacco in the finish.'And who should drink our Decaf, according to Ken Davids? ' Anyone who wants to experience how refreshing and exhilarating a really fine extreme light-roasted coffee can be.'
Koffie Kān obtained a third place in the total ranking, amongst mostly US-brands, with a total score of 88 points and 8's for aroma and flavour.

Solidarity Award

On March 28th Koffie Kān received the Belgian Solidarity Award. A company that wants to be nominated for this biennial award, needs to be more than a purely business economical enterprise. It must give proof of a special attention to durable employment, the environment, fair trade, a democratic labour system and iniatives to social renovation. The jury decided that Koffie Kān meets most of these standards and therefore gave us the Belgian Solidarity Award 2002-2003. We are very happy and proud with this honourable title, because to us it means the recognition of more than 3 decades of committed and self-willed business.

Koffie Kān as an example in European Campaign on Corporate Social Responsibility

In 2005 the European Commission launched a Pan-European awareness-raising campaign on Corporate Social Responsibility for Small & Medium Enterprises. The campaign kicked off in Brussels and was meant to make small enterprises in 29 European countries susceptible for the advantages of corporate social responsibility, by means of 65 conferences in all countries. To persuade and inspire the enterpreneurs, the Commission edited an interesting toolkit, with 10 testimonials of small but social responsible enterprises. Among them: Koffie Kān.
On the launch event in Brussels and in presence of the European Commissioner for Enterprise
and Information Society, Olli Rehn, co-owner and marketing manager of Koffie Kān, Martine Nijsters testified of the ways of bringing CSR in practice.

Koffie Kān’s website wins Popular CMS Award

Koffie Kān Koffie Kān participated in an online contest for websites, the CMS Awards.
And we won a 2nd Popular Award in the category ‘best Design’!

Not bad for a small family owned coffee business, who had to compete with no more than 110 big companies and organisations, who mostly employ specialised IT-people to run their site. We had DUO, a web-designer from Brugge, styling our site but manage the site by ourselves.

This recognition by the surfing internet public is of great value to us, because it proves that our site is not only visited, but that the message of ‘Koffie Kān is great coffee’ gets through. Or as a member of the professional jury said: “Such a tasty site, you almost smell the coffee”.

Now get to drink it too
